Katy Saoud

At-Large

Candidate Statement

I am Katy Saoud (she/her), formerly Katy Eales, running for re-election for our 2026 Steering Committee. I’ve served the last year as Co-Chair and am seeking a Member At-Large position for this term. It’s been an honor representing this chapter and I’m excited for what the next year will bring.

This year I was able to attend our National Convention as one of our nine delegates where I advocated that all members should have a vote in who leads the national org and what politicians we endorse. I am a member of the National Electoral Committee, National Labor Commission, and Growth and Development Committee.

Locally during my term I’ve helped:

  • Onboard an influx of new members. We’ve seen extreme growth this past year and our SC made sure every person was offered a 1 on 1. Sarah Callahan and myself also did outreach to non members by utilizing our National newsletter contacts and folks who attended events, both locally and nationally. Many of these people would join DSA after speaking with us.
  • With the help of Rayan Saoud and Iris Canton I increased our tabling and visibility at various events. We tabled over a dozen times, often at large scale events/protests, raising over $3,500. This included bottom lining our Pride booth and more recently the massive No Kings protest which had thousands of attendees.
  • Created a robust resource channel within discord, standardized the working group and committee descriptors, as well as ensuring new joins were let in and given the appropriate roles.
  • While my fellow co-chair and secretary were out for maternity leave I doubled my duties to make sure the chapter stayed on track, increasing time spent on DSA by 10 hours a week.

I have no doubt that our chapter will continue to see exponential growth in the coming years and I want to continue the groundwork we’ve laid to build real political power in the area. If re-elected I plan to play a large role in setting up the newly formed Administrative Committee’s structures and processes. In this work I plan to:

  • Increase our tabling by intentionally seeking out smaller events in marginalized communities, and creating a month to month calendar with a consistent list of volunteers.
  • Work on developing introductory political education events aimed at working class people who have not been introduced to things like Marxism yet. My goal here is to make things approachable for the people who haven’t had the luxury to read theory.
  • Assist our Secretary in doing continuous member list work to make sure every person whose dues have lapsed or will soon, have a personal point of contact to bring them back into the chapter.
  • Create a buddy program for new members (or existing ones that’ve not yet plugged in) to help them feel more comfortable participating.

My last two years of leadership has been a privilege, and I have the confidence to be able to serve again. Please rank me as one of your Member At-Larges, along with fellow slate member Mike Viozzi. I also encourage you all to re-elect my DSA mentors, Sarah Callahan for Co-Chair and Olivia Merrill for Secretary. In addition to the SC I am asking for your support in re-electing Iris Canton for Labor, Olivia Merrill for Electoral, and Mike Viozzi for Ecosocialism.

Looking forward to fighting another year with you all!
