Candidate Statement

Hi,

I’m excited to be running for re-election as co-chair of Metro Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky DSA. Over the past year, we’ve seen real growth, stability, and political development in our chapter, and I’m proud of the work we’ve done together. We’ve laid the groundwork, and now we’re starting to see it come to life.

During my time as co-chair, we have:

  • Grown our membership significantly. I bottomlined the work to ensure every new member was offered one-on-one, virtual or in person, thanks to our incredible onboarding team.
  • Built a real pipeline into the organization. I chaired our Membership Recruitment & Retention Subcommittee, which didn’t just onboard new members, but actively reached out to every single person who signed up for national DSA emails and/or attended a new national event to offer them their first human contact with our chapter. Many of those folks joined DSA immediately after talking with us.
  • Strengthened leadership and working groups. Katy Saoud and I made ourselves available to working group co-chairs for problem solving, planning, and support. We helped develop a stronger onboarding and training system for leadership so no one feels like they’re doing this work alone.
  • Led with care, discipline, and urgency during crisis. When our members and comrades were brutalized and arrested at the Roebling Bridge protest, our Steering Committee worked through the night monitoring arrest records, organizing jail support, attending the morning bail hearing, and coordinating bail. We didn’t hesitate, and jumped right into action.
  • Passed meaningful structural reforms. I drafted the resolution passed at our December general meeting to create an Administrative Committee, bringing together five key areas of internal chapter work. Too many committees were stalled by attendance, scheduling, and endless meetings. This new structure helps our chapter function like a well-organized machine so our political work can thrive with the support it deserves.

Socialism is no longer a dirty word. We’re winning seats, building power, and shaping real political terrain across the country, including in Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky. Our chapter has done incredible work, and I want to keep building on it.

If re-elected, I will:

  • Support and strengthen our Administrative Committee so our chapter has consistent structure, meaningful social and educational programming, and reliable communication and support systems
  • Prioritize recruitment across both sides of the river and make it easier for new members to plug into meaningful work
  • Continue training up new organizers and supporting working group leaders so they not only learn skills but feel confident using them
  • Defend and uphold the democratic will of our membership
  • Fight alongside our chapter against the rise of fascism and the threat of Trump, while continuing to build a disciplined & strategic socialist organization

I hope you’ll rank me, Sarah Callahan, for co-chair and support the rest of the Groundwork slate on your OpaVote ballot:
